Class Tasks & Experimentation
Mario Odyssey Soundscape
For this task, I created some sound designs for a Mario Odyssey Trailer. I used Logic Pro to create this and it was my first time using this software so I had the extra fun of trying to work out how to use it. I was given a file with the video and audio to use and it was my job to create the ambience and add the dinosaur's sounds. Sadly, I couldn't use markers to help with the placement of the footsteps which made it a bit harder to line them up but I tried my best to get them as in time as I could. I also used different sound volumes to give some depth. Some of the audio files didn't fill the length needed so I used the flex tool to lengthen them to the desired length. Considering it was my first time using Logic Pro it went well but I still think there are a few improvements that could've been made. For example, I believe that I missed a footstep and I also think I should have decreased the volume of the footsteps slightly too.

Paint Brush Text Effect
In this experiment, I wanted to try a text animation that I could possibly use in my music video. The idea of this animation is that the text is being written and I used the write on effect, on a transparent layer, to create this animation. I found a font from Da Font, I can't remember off the top of my head what it's called, and I really like this paint brush effect that this font has. I really like this effect but I'm not sure if it will fit the vibe and tone I'm going for in my music video, looking back.

Text Bubble Animation
One of my ideas for my video included using text bubbles instead of dialogue as I thought it might take away from the song. I used a tutorial on YouTube to help with this effect as I didn't know how to do this animation. I used keyframes to get a bobble, changed the colour to the same as the apple message texts and used a wipe transition to animate the text. I created the animations in separate sequences and then added them both to a short video I found on Pexels. I really like this effect and I think this works well but I think that I would definitely try to refine and perfect it as it doesn't look amazing yet, before my final FMP video. Obviously, this is just a test so ignore the names, the content of the messages and the fact it doesn't link to the girl in the video.

Alien Puppet Animation
For this class task, I used the puppet pin tool which allows you to warp the perspective of the image. You can add as many pins as you want which allows for more realistic movement so I tried to use this alien png to wave and do the wave which worked pretty well. I don't think this will be used in my music video but it was cool to use this tool as I have never done animation like this before.

Paper Tear Effect
After looking on YouTube for effects and animations that I could use in my music video, I found this paper effect by Premiere Basics which is supposed to be based on an effect in "Rock With You" by SEVENTEEN. I thought this looked like a really cool effect and could be used to make certain sections more visually entertaining. Ultimately, after trying it I didn't like the effect as much as I thought I would and I tried to spend a while adding multiple clips together. It wasn't working or looking right so I exported a section with just one clip that still shows the effect.
I used footage from a live recording of a Machine Gun Kelly song as I thought it would look really cool with the effect. The effect uses real paper tears with high contrast to the background and then the footage uses the track key matte effect to get the paper shape. To make the tear effect you add a copy of the paper underneath the footage and increase the size percentage slightly.

Colour Effect
At the moment, I am just testing a few different effects that I have seen on YouTube and Tiktok to see if I would like to apply them to my final video. This colour effect uses the same clip on 3 separate layers at different scale percentages, I used 100%, 80% and 60% I believe, and the curves FGB filters to remove the colour from each clip. This effect looked really cool in the thumb nail of the tutorial and I thought that I would try it out but I really don't like it. Maybe I was a bit harsh on the colour which is why as it's very bold and vibrant but I don't like it and I don't think that it will suit my music video.

Promo photo test
As one of the parts of my project is creating promo videos and photos for my music video, I thought that I would test the idea on my previous music video "One Day" by Lovejoy. The main problem I faced here was the composition of the text and the original images. As I didn’t plan to create these originally I had to take screenshots from the music video which lead to me struggling to get a good layout. When I film the music video I will spend some time getting some possible promo shots of Sam, Hope and the "behind the scenes" action for the social media page. I also think they are quite boring with just the text added on and that I have more room for an extra bit of creativity. I will plan to look more into stuff like this for inspiration and create a few rough sketches for the final images. My favourite photo is the fourth one with the Lovejoy logo at the top as I really like the small section used with the wide background. I don't think this would work with this project but it is my favourite.

Paper Rip Transition
I found this effect again on TikTok which used a downloaded library from Cinepacks to get these paper rip transitions. I used a Yungblud music video for the footage and tried out 2 transitions to see if it was something that would work for my video. It uses 2 ultra key effects for each clip and I think it works really well. I did realise that there is a slight keying issue on the second transition so I would need to see if I can fix that or just avoid using that specific transition. I also added the paper texture over the top with a blending mode on top which I really like. I think that this would work well for my music video so I will definitely try this once I have footage.

Text-based logo design
I decided to create a text-based logo which could be used in the final video as well as the promotional material. I experimented a lot with fonts as you can see below with the progress screen-shots. When I was happy with the logo, I created a simple mockup with a promo image from his new album "On To Better Things" which the song is from. I have the idea to use the paper effect throughout so I thought I would add that over the top here too. For the logo, I used a brush font with a glow. I tried a drop shadow too which also looked good but I thought the glow looked better to stand out. With this logo, I will animate it as I did for one of my first experiments for the final video.
